The day after that, I turn 45. My mom’s mom died when she was 90, and my mom is 87 and doing incredibly well for her age. Which could mean that this mini-retirement I’m about to start is because I’m having a mid-life crisis. I don’t think so, though. I’ve been dreaming about retirement since I was taking college classes 20 years ago. Obsessing over charts of compound interest, I realized that if I started young, I wouldn’t need to invest as much as someone older. I’m so glad I started as early as I did.

I don’t really have any goals for this work break. I have about 1.5-2.0 years of expenses saved up in a high-yield savings account. Am I really planning to not work for 2 years? Probably not. There are things I’m thinking about doing to earn some money, but I definitely want to enjoy this break for a while before I think about work. I have things that will keep me busy, like gardening, reading, working out, helping my mom with her garden, and more. Oh, and my husband. We’ll be able to do a lot more projects around the house and yard now that I won’t be working.

I’m so excited!!

My last day of work for a while is two days away.
